The Apology
Lexa leaped into the air, landing just inches from Nia. In a single swift motion, she slashed at the silver chain around her throat. Lexa sprang away from Nia putting a little bit of distance between them.
“Fool!” She cackled. “You had the element of surprise, and you squandered it like the simple human you are.” She took a menacing step towards Lexa. “And now, I think I’ll kill you first, and let Clarke watch you suffer before I end her.”
Lexa shot a panicked glance towards Clarke. Clarke lay on the soaked ground, broken and shivering, and at the suggestion of watching Lexa die, she scrambled to her feet. She slipped and slid on the slick earth until she reached Lexa, and Nia just gleefully watched her struggle.
Lexa caught Clarke in her arms and pulled her close. “I’m so sorry, Lexa. I didn’t mean for the veil to drop. I didn’t mean for you to be here. You shouldn’t have to die because of me.”
Clarke looked wholly and utterly broken, and Lexa’s heart clenched at the sight. “It’s okay, Clarke. I chose to be here.”
“I grow tired of your sentimentalities,” Nia’s voice was full of hate, and Lexa couldn’t help but wonder how someone could harbor so much venom and hostility without exploding. “It’s time to end this,” Nia growled.
