The Short Walk

Lexa pulled back and cleared her throat. She gave Clarke a soft smile that was quickly returned. “Can I walk you home?”

Clarke nodded eagerly and grasped Lexa’s hand once more. They walked silently for a few moments, their shoulders brushing now and then.

“So, that was a mind fuck,” Clarke calmly exclaimed into the night.

Lexa broke out into a hearty laugh. Clarke wasn’t wrong. She had no idea what had just happened. A demon that shot fire from its hands? Being chased for no reason? Yeah, definitely mind fuck territory.

“I think that’s the understatement of the century.” Lexa turned to look at Clarke who was suddenly serious, all remanents of her mind fuck joke wiped clean.

“But it did happen, right?”

“Yes,” Lexa nodded. While she couldn’t explain the what or the why, she was sure that it did just occur. They weren’t dreaming. She needed to reassure Clarke, to make her feel sane. “Unless we’re both lying unconscious in the middle of campus after knocking our heads together and are currently experiencing one hell of a mind meld/shared dream thing.”

Clarke released a breathy laugh, and Lexa was thrilled her attempt at a joke calmed her. “Well, that just seems far fetched.”

“The simplest explanation is often the correct one,” Lexa nodded as she held open the door to Clarke’s building.

“So an evil demon chased us until you shattered the talisman into twenty pieces?”

“Yep.”

“Cool. But just so you know, I’m not going to tell another living soul about this.”

“Sounds like a plan.”
