The Leap of Faith

Throwing caution to the wind, Lexa pulled out the rainbow-colored notebook and held it very blatantly in her hand. The boy’s eyes flicked quickly to the rainbow, but it didn’t deter him from continuing to speak. Lexa fought the urge to roll her eyes and was positively giddy when her phone buzzed again.

Unknown Number:

Tell him you're a lesbian.

Lexa smirked and held her up her notebook, silencing the boy mid-sentence. “Listen. I’ve been perfectly clear, but seeing as how you need it spelled out for you, allow me to try again.”

He looked like he was about to interrupt her, but Lexa just shook her head and pushed on. “I am a lesbian. I am not attracted to men, and this includes you. I don’t want to go out with you.”

Unknown Number:

No means no.

“But-”

Lexa shook her head and pressed her lips together. “No means no.”

Unknown Number:

If he protests, hit him upside the head with your notebook. Be as forceful as you like.

“Come on, Lexa. Nobody is black or white these days. I’m sure you’ve thought about me at least once. Why not make-”

He was silenced as a beautiful rainbow smacked away the hand he was reaching out with. A hand that undoubtedly was about to try and touch her. Lexa barely contained the pure glee radiating throughout her whole body as he cradled his hand against his chest.

“Ouch! What the hell? Did you just hit me with your notebook?”

Lexa nodded. “My rainbow notebook.”

Unknown Number:

Waltz out, head high. Your unicorn awaits you in the doorway.

Lexa turned away from the still sulking boy and slowly made her way towards the door, stashing her notebook and phone in her bag as she went. Her throat went dry. There was no one standing in the doorway.

Did she just smack a guy in front of the entire class for no reason? Was this really going to end how Clarke said it was going to end? Was the woman of her dreams about to kiss her? Was there a fucking horse in the hallway? Was this all an elaborate prank?

Despite her mind’s internal panic, Lexa stoically made her way to the exit. Her heart was hammering, and she feared it was about to burst from her chest. She took a deep breath and crossed the threshold with her head held high.
