The Maybe Someday

“Clarke,” Lexa soothed. She scooted herself back down the bed and pulled Clarke into her arms. “I love you, and it’s okay to have ridiculous breakdowns. Emotions make us beautifully human. You are entitled to get upset that we aren’t married, but don’t think even for a minute, that I want to call someone else my wife.”

Clarke tilted her head up to look Lexa in the eyes, and when their gazes met, Lexa couldn’t resist leaning forward for a kiss. It always squeezed her heart almost to the point of pain to see Clarke cry, and while she knew that sometimes crying was necessary, she also wanted to do everything in her power to make that happen as little as possible.

Clarke pulled away with a small smile, and Lexa grinned back. “You can change your mind about marriage, or you can keep your current philosophy. I don’t mind either way.”

“You don’t?”

Lexa shook her head softly. “I just love you.” Lexa took in a big, overly dramatic breath and shrugged her shoulders so grandly that Clarke rose and fell on her chest. “Besides, I bet we qualify for common-law marriage status at this point anyway.”

“You say the sweetest things,” Clarke chuckled into her chest. Lexa kissed the top of her head and held her close. After a few minutes of wonderful snuggles, Clarke mumbled again, “I think I want to marry you.”

Lexa pulled them both up on the bed this time. She sat in front of Clarke and pulled her hands into her lap. “There’s no rush. How about I go reheat dinner, and then I’ll draw us a nice bath, and we’ll just relax all evening?”

“Now I really want to marry you.” Clarke untangled her hands from Lexa and pulled her in for a sweetly heated kiss, mostly tongue mixed in with a whole lot of love.

“Maybe someday,” Lexa murmured into Clarke’s mouth. And as Clarke pulled her on top of her body, Lexa’s mind briefly wandered to the ring sitting in her bedside drawer. Their maybe someday wasn’t too far away after all.

The End.
